Abstract

Although there is a consensus on the fact that both sexes are equally talented across all academic domains, girls are in proportion underrepresented in support programs that aim at mathematically talented children. Thus, it is of interest to as certain aspects that improve the identification and support of girls’ mathematical potentials from a holistic perspective. In particular, motivational aspects like self-concepts, attributions or interests should be considered in this context, since in contrast to girls, boys obviously tend to advantageous characteristics independently of an identification of their talent. In this article, a qualitative interview-study will be reported focusing on the significance of the motivational factors mentioned above as determinants for the development of talent.
