Abstract

This excerpt is part of the contribution "Shifting social norms as a driving force for linguistic change: Struggles about language and gender in the German Bundestag" (The Mouth 12), which discusses language, gender and discrimination in the German Bundestag.  The documentary film Die Unbeugsamen (‘The Unbending’) by Torsten Körner recounts the history of women in the so-called Bonner Republik (‘Bonn Republic’, 1949-1990) and vividly shows how strong the everyday discrimination against gays still was at that time, which can be seen in the short excerpt presented here.
