Abstract

Within the theoretical framework of conceptualizations of silence in tourism, as well as  multimodal analysis of tourism soundscapes this paper examines how the boundaries of taboos are defined within the multicultural setting of tourism and guest/ host relations, naming the contradictory perspectives of visitors and the visited and silencing as a strategy of avoiding defacement.
