Abstract

The present paper will address linguistic taboos in Ayoreo, a Zamucoan language spoken in the Chaco area of southeastern Bolivia and northern Paraguay. In addressing linguistic taboos, one has to distinguish between taboos motivated by religious beliefs and those motivated by social norms, as will be discussed in this contribution.
