Philosophy & Digitality (P&D): Call for Special Issues
Posted on 2025-12-18P&D is an international, open access, double-blind reviewed philosophical community journal without publication fees (ISSN 2940-8466). It is supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Editors are Gabriele Gramelsberger (Aachen, Germany) (Editor in Chief), Sybille Krämer (Luneburg, Germany) and Jörg Noller (Munich, Germany).
A special issue focuses on one particular aspect or perspective of the philosophy of digitality. The journal welcomes contributions on the aesthetical, ethical, political, ontological, and epistemological dimensions of digitalization. Phenomena of digitalization such as artificial intelligence, the internet or metaverse, computer games, but also the symbolic nature of the digital as well as code structures and recent technologies such as blockchain are at the center of interest. Furthermore, forms and methods of digitized research procedures, such as in the Digital Humanities, will be reflected from a philosophical perspective.
The contributions can be the proceedings of an international conference or workshop (in the near past or future) or an international call for papers.
Interested editors can submit a concept for a special issue until the 15th of April 2026. Please send your concept to info@phidi.org. After a positive review of the concept by the editorial board of the journal towards the middle of the year, the special issue will then be scheduled for 2027.
The concept must contain:
- The title of the issue.
- A short description of the related conference/workshop/topic (between 300 and 600 words).
- The names of the editors of the special issue, their affiliations and a short biography.
- The estimated count of contributions. Per special issue, six to ten papers should be aimed for.
- A first (but not final) list of contributions with the names and affiliations of the authors and the (working) titles of their papers.
- A schedule when the (peer reviewed and proofread) contributions will be ready for the publication process (between January and September 2026—if this is too early for you, there will be another call for special issues at the beginning of next year).
Papers of the special issue should have between 2,500 and 6,000 words (including footnotes but excluding bibliography). The preferred language should be English but German papers are also accepted. They must include a title, a short abstract (up to 150 words) and 4 to 6 keywords. Aside from exceptional situations, authors are limited to one submission per issue. The file format of the papers has to be .docx, the use of Zotero for citations is mandatory (!).
With the submission of a concept, editors of a special issue confirm that they will organize the scientific double-blind peer review as well as the proofreading (orthography and grammar) for the contributions if the special issue is reviewed positively.
