About the Journal

Afrikanistik-Aegyptology-Online

is a peer-reviewed journal. For 10 years - from 2004 to 2014 - it appeared under the name 'Afrikanistik-Online' and represented African Studies in the so-called Westermann breadth. Since April 2014, it has gained further historical depth through Egyptology.

The content focuses on linguistic, communication and literary analyses as well as studies of African cultures and history. They are published both in the form of articles and monographs.

In addition, the journal offers a platform where preliminary research results can be published in the form of reports. In addition to interviews and forums, they enable the reader to participate in current research discussions in a timely manner. Comments can be submitted on all publications - including older ones.

Afrikanistik-Aegyptology-Online

is a freely accessible (open access) electronic journal that provides access to current scientific research even where print publications are not available or are difficult to access.

A particular concern of the journal is the use of the interactive and multimedia presentation potential of electronic publishing: a significant advantage over printed journals. Articles can be supplemented with large-format illustrations as well as audio and video recordings, among other things.

To facilitate rapid publication, there are no fixed issues. Articles appear as soon as they have been approved by the reviewers.

Afrikanistik-Aegyptologie-Online

is a multilingual journal. German, English and French are the main languages of publication. As far as possible, articles are preceded by abstracts in German, English and French as well as in an African language or Arabic.

Afrikanistik-Aegyptology-Online

was funded from 2004 to 2023 (until 2014 under 'Afrikanistik-online') by the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Research of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia within the framework of DiPP (Digital Peer Publishing) and hosted and technically maintained at the HBZ (Hochschulbibliothekszentrum NRW). Since 2023 AAeO belongs to the USB Open Publictions of the University of Cologne.
